Are a pitta person?
"The physiology of the human being is governed by three main forces, which are known as the three doshas. When functioning normally, they maintain the good health of the body and guide all the normal bodily functions." Dr. Marc Halpern.
Everyone is born with all 3 of these forces. Each person has a unique percentage of these forces that are established at the moment of conception. As we go through life, oftentimes external elements, situations, experiences, and sometimes traumas, will create an imbalance of the doshas within us. When this happens, a door is opened for disease to creep in. As we learn more about ayurveda and the doshas, we become more self aware, and are able to make decisions that will help us maintain the unique balance of the doshas that we were created with.
Some people are created with a high percentage of pitta dosha. Pitta is the force of creation. How do you know if you are a person with a natural pitta constitution?
"Pitta dosha is the force in the body that is responsible for digestion and metabolism. Its principal quality is heat. It is also light, oily, unstable, and sharp." Dr. Halpern. A pitta person will exhibit many of these qualities.
When you see a person with strong pitta, he or she will act very much like a fire. This person may be short-tempered, overly critical, quick to judge, and harsh. If you get in the way of a pitta person when he or she is too fired up...you will get burned. These people also tend to have oily skin and hair, intense eyes, their bodies are always warm, they are prone to fevers, and perhaps skin rashes.
Pitta people when in balance also exhibit all of the life giving qualities of fire. Pittas are the trailblazers of the world, without which many of us would never move forward and grow. Think of the seed that is content to stay in the earth forever. It is the light and the warmth of the sun that awakens the seed and pushes it to grow. This is the same of pitta people. They are brave, bold, and natural leaders. They are usually the first ones into battle. They create the path for the rest of us to follow.
Pittas are creative, energetic, competitive, assertive, motivational, and eager to help others get ahead.
When in balance, pittas are amazing people to be around. When out of balance...yikes!
Signs of a pitta imbalance may include, but are not limited to: yellow coloring (especially in the eyes), hunger, excess thirst, burning sensations, difficulty sleeping, bleeding, excess discharge of urine or sweat. If these symptoms are left untreated, they will lead to more serious conditions, and eventually disease.
Does this sound like you? You may be experiencing a pitta imbalance, or you may have a strong pitta constitution.
There are many simple ways that we can bring our bodies and our minds back into balance. We can use diet, herbs, lifestyle choices, our senses, and exercise to help us maintain a balance that is unique to us.
