It's not always about the gym. Seven stress relieving intentions to practice this year.
An intention should feel like a kind reminder. Something that you can refer to as many times as you like throughout the day, whether they are a post-it note on your fridge or the background of your phone.
I know how easy it can be to lose yourself in the rabbit hole of obligations and commitments. When we're in this place even the gym feels like another task that has to be completed. Sometimes it is okay to forego the gym to take care of our internal health. Setting a few intentions as reminders to take care of your soul first will help your body feel that much better.
1. I Will Slow Down
Slowing yourself down helps change the pacing of your day. It's nourishing to find a few moments when you can take it down a notch. Move as if you're in slow motion instead of rushing. Or find a few minutes to sit down to catch the chaos around you instead of adding to it.
2. I Will Pay Attention
It's easy to lose sight of things when there are a lot of obligations, tasks, and people to manage. Pay attention to what's grabbing your attention. Take a step back with a mental snapshot, look at the big picture, then narrow down into the necessary details.
3. I Will Take Care Of Myself
You have to take care of yourself to take care of others. One of my favorite reminders, which I wish I would've heard when my kids were little, is " You can't fill from an empty cup." Recharge by carving out some time in your schedule—in advance—for solo, quiet, or even bath time, or by taking advantage when a time slot arises.
4. I Will Celebrate Small Wins
Making it every day and every season is a huge accomplishment! It's so easy to get down on ourselves when we don't get anything, or all of it, done. One small step and win at a time. Be kind to yourself. It's okay if we're not always at the front of the race. We are always evolving.
5. I Will Stay Grounded
Stick with your passions, principles, and must-do's so you can prioritize. Having boundaries with friends and other commitments is a healthy way to maintain a sense of balance and center, so you don't feel pushed, taken advantage of, or out of sync. Setting boundaries is nothing to feel guilty for. Plant your symbolic feet on the ground and feel free to walk away.
6. I Will Be Flexible
Not everything will go our way every time. Don't get bogged down by the inevitable changes, schedules, and, let's say, traffic, that is out of our control. Instead, pivot with them and make it a chance to practice your creativity and management skills. Face a new task or challenge with ease and focus rather than frantic energy. Flexibility is strength. Stretch your mind.
7. I Will Move With Love
Why are you doing what you're doing? How are you doing it? Bringing compassion vs. criticism into your everyday can have a significant impact on your thoughts and, therefore, your moods. Gather the love without judgment in your life.
These solutions seem so simple, but I know how challenging it can be to implement them. As a health coach I can show you easy and practical ways to incorporate these steps into your life. You will see your health improve. You will feel better in your body. You will have more energy.
