Things have been busy

We are currently at the climax of Vata season. In ayurveda there are 3 doshas, or body types, and 3 seasons. Vata season has the same characteristics as the Vata dosha. Vata is dry, cold, airy, and this oftentimes leads to an imbalance of the elements within us.

Think of winter. It is dry, cold, windy. It often leads to us suffering from dry skin and hair. If you have a natural vata tendency your fingers and toes will always be cold. This can lead to feelings of unease, anxiety, stress, and the inability to stay focused on one task at a time.

This is why it is so important for us to slow down and really take care of ourselves during the winter months. Warm teas, fuzzy blankets, relaxing nights snuggled by the fire are all good things for vatas to do during this time of year.

It is also important to use products with the least amount of chemicals whether it be on our skin, or in our food. I am always on the look out for products that are clean and natural. One of my favorites is a deodorant from Primally pure. It is a clean chemical free deodorant that actually works! Click on this link to give it a try http://fbuy.me/v/sabrina_190

Another thing that is very beneficial for vatas is an oil massage. I have written about the practice of abyhanga before and the many benefits it brings. I will soon begin offering this and other ayurvedic therapies to my clients. To learn more click here... ayurveda body treatments.

The great thing about abyhanga is that you can do it at home. For a vata imbalance, a vata dosha, especially during the vata time of year it is best to use either sesame oil or sweet almond oil. You want to begin by rubbing into your feet. Then you work your way up the body massaging towards the middle of your chest and your heart. I like to do this at night and sleep with the oil on my skin. I shower first thing in the morning. If you would rather not sleep with it on, leave it on your skin for at least 20 minutes before you wash it off.
