Quick Easy Recipe for Bone Broth
Bone broth is all the rage right now, and for good reason. It is packed with nutrients that are easily absorbed by our bodies.
It's a little funny for me to see glass jars of it being sold in grocery stores for over $10. As a kid, my grandmother used to make it all the time. Now it's one of the latest health and fitness trends.
I was inspired to share this with you after I overheard a young women in a restaurant talking about how healthy bone broth is and how she was going to go buy a rotisserie chicken, put it in some water and make her own bone broth. Part of me wanted to tell this young women that she wouldn't get much benefit from using an already cooked rotisserie chicken.
After listening to this woman, I did realize that in the age of YouTube and social media stars/charlatans, there is sooo much misinformation out there. It's really insane. It's easy for us to be misguided with improper information.
Here are a few facts about bone broth...
1. It's been around forever. It's not a trend.
2. It is indeed full of nutrients that will help your body work at its fullest potential.
3. It's really easy to make. There is no need to spend $10 on a store bought jar of it.
4. It only works if you use raw, unprocessed bones...not already cooked rotisserie chickens, or ribs, or whatever else has been sitting under the lights all day at your local deli.
DIRECTIONS
You can use either chicken or beef. I choose beef, because it was the only option. Make sure that it is uncooked. Whatever bone you buy, it can have skin, meat, or just be the bone. When using chicken, I prefer to use a chicken breast that has the bone, meat, and skin.
Once you get home and are ready to make your bone broth, fill a large pot with water. Add the bones. Let it slowly come to a simmer.
In this recipe I added garlic cloves and bay leaves to the broth. I let it simmer for a couple of hours.
Once it was done, I let the broth cool. I strained it as I poured it into glass mason jars. Store the broth in the refrigerator for up to a week.
That's it. It really is so simple and easy.
You can use the broth to make rice, soups, quinoa, pasta.
I hope you try to make your own broth. If you have any questions please feel free to comment below.
Much Love,
