Why spring is the perfect time for a detox.
When spring finally reaches us, many of us are winter fatigued. The cold and bitter winds of winter can take its toll on our mental health as well as our weight.
Spring is known in Ayurveda as the season of kapha. Kapha brings with it new growth and awakening, and a welcome relief that warmer weather and sunshine are on its way. Spring/Kapha season is wet, muddy, heavy, and can create stagnation. This is the perfect time of year to rid the body of accumulated toxins, so that we can meet the warmer months with energy and positive vibes.
A quick detox should be planned. The main part of a detox is diet. We want to consume foods that are easy to digest and that will help to rid the body of all the heavy comfort foods we ingested during the winter.
But it should also take into consideration a mental reset. Our lives are constantly bombarded with "to do's." Social media, emails, and notifications on our many devices are constant. Giving your mind a break from all of the "noise" will leave you feeling more refreshed than if you did a diet detox alone.
Doing a detox in the spring will help you rid the mind and the digestion of stored junk that weighs you down. It will help to prepare you, body and mind, to fully enjoy the beauty of summer. You will have more energy. You will lose weight. You will sleep better, have more mental clarity, feel more relaxed, and ready to take advantage of any opportunities that lay before you.

Remember to give yourself 3 days to fully devote to the detox. This includes staying away from social media, and limiting screen time as much as possible. Try to spend some time in nature if you can. And try to give yourself some time to be alone in silence.
