Learn to Listen to Yourself
Our bodies know how to heal themselves. All we need to do is get out of the way. It is simple, yet so hard to put into place. I know, I experience it too.
Our bodies give us warning signs when we do something, expose ourselves to a situation, or eat something that causes us harm. We intuitively know what is right for us and what is wrong for us. This is different for everyone, as there is no one size fits all when it comes to health & wellness.
The problem is that we are so busy & distracted that we don't know how to listen to ourselves anymore.
How many of us cannot get a decent night's sleep because of nonstop mental chatter? And most of the time it's just random thoughts that have no real bearing on our lives that race through our brains.
Learning to listen to ourselves requires that we open the channels of connection to allow our energy, intuition, and divine wisdom to come through.
It's hard to get this message across to the masses, because it's not sexy, but nevertheless essential to our overall health & well being. The answer is simple. It is stillness.
Stay still. Do nothing. Don't look at your phone. Don't turn on the TV. Just sit and listen to the sound of your breath.
Start out with just 5 minutes a day. Wake up early if you have to. Everyone can spare 5 minutes. Do it in the car, or in the bathtub. But make it almost like a sacred ritual.
There are meditation apps and timers that you can download to guide you through this process.
There is actual scientific evidence supporting the importance of stillness on our mental & physical health. One of my favorite books on this topic is by Sandra Barrett PhD. It is titled, The Secret of Your Cells. It explains epigenetics and cell memory.
Stillness is a practice that takes a long time to master. Don't get frustrated with yourself if you can't quiet your mind right away. Like everything else. It doesn't happen overnight. But the benefits are very real. Give it a try. What's there to lose?
