The Healing Power of Nature
I first came across the idea of Infra sound a couple years ago. I was reading a book by Leigh Henion. It is titled, Phenomenon: A Hesitant Adventurers Search for Wonder in the Natural World. She wrote about a vibration that could not be heard, but felt. It has been confirmed by geologists in Hawaii. I was truly captivated by this.
Since I was a child I loved spending time outside among the trees, in the sunshine, next to the sounds of the ocean. There was always something more about my experience in nature that I couldn't quite explain. I felt something, almost like a subtle rhythm, or a pulsing that I only felt in the moments when I was left alone. I was always the kid that lingered behind all my cousins and playmates when we played outside. I wanted to feel this strange sensation just a little longer.
It doesn't take much to do a quick google search on infra sound. You will find that it is indeed inaudible to humans, but not to elephants or whales, among many other animals.
It is a low level frequency that travels farther than high frequency sounds. It's possibly how animals are able to detect natural disasters. It was first discovered by Katy Payne. She was studying elephants at the Washington Park Zoo in Portland, Oregon when she noticed them communicating with sounds she couldn't hear, but thought she felt.
Just as recently as this week, I was reading an article in ACE's most recent issue, Green Your Mind by Erin Casperson, where they discussed the health affects of trees. Trees release phytoncides, which are airborne chemicals that can boost our immune system and have a direct effect on our nervous system. Studies have also shown that they can lower blood pressure and reduce cortisol levels.
Make sure that you give yourself some time to spend outside. If you are a health advocate, encourage your clients to spend time outside. There is some serious scientific evidence to back up the claim that Nature Heals.
As always, Much love and namaste
